Comment: The time for talking is done - we want to see action. We need to see regeneration and development for Preston to bring confidence and pride back in our city. A clear strategy, backed by strong leadership and action will help to galvanise the latent energy and passion in our city - to the benefit of all. A more energised, passionate city will boost business, help grow our local economy and create a better environment for us to live, work or play! It will also hopefully inspire our football team to make the final leap into the premier league - just like the city of Preston.

Comment: I think Preston needs to Enhance its city centre's shopping and leisure offer. Reinforcing its status as the primary centre in Lancashire. Yes we are all waiting in anticipation for the Tithebarn project, but I think the council needs to not have all its eggs in one basket! Is there a Plan B??? Preston should use its guild year (2012) as a catalyst for new development in and around the city centre, to promote the city, just like Liverpool has done with the capital of culture in 2008. The local council should also support and enhance business activity in the city centre by creating conditions for sustainable growth. As a new business in the area, we would like to see more development opportunities in the local area and more ways of getting involved in Preston's 'Core Areas' such as Winckley Square.

Comment: While we wait for the Thithebarn outcome we need to push the City Council to get on with the public realm projects, where public money is available. In terms of confidence businesses need to see construction projects taking place and changing the landscape in a positive way. They also need to deal much more robustly with those groups who constantly appose change. Lets see something happening.

Comment: Preston really cocked up the marina project some years ago and musn\'t do the same error again, it would be beneficial to the City that a commercial centre is sited close to the centre along with more hotel accommodation. Preston would benefit with a tram system connecting the centre to areas such as the marina and outlying areas in order that the city is brought closer together.

Comment: Aside of flattening the city centre and starting again (!), I would suggest pedestrianising whole of Fishergate (and possibly slightly more); more park and rides; and covnert the city into a more appealling centre, e.g. cafe / bistro culture.

Comment:

I feel sure that Winckley Square can be brought back into the public realm effectively and quickly with simple solutions such as ; Land drainage Tree management Simple Lighting Security Public sitting areas Clear and welcoming signage Simple cheap solutions for this much loved green space.

Simple welcoming signage is a must upon arrival at the railway station. "Welcome to the City of Preston" Also at the main highway gateways to the City.Pride in our City-Lamb and Flag.

The pedestrianisation of the whole of Fishergate with the exception of public transport (trams?)would be a much needed boost to the existing retailers.Public spaces, some covered would be created which would link clearly to Winckley square.

Comment: I have thought for many years that Preston has a distinct lack of restaurants and this has been made all the more apparant by the recent success story of East z East. The restaurant is absolutely heaving every single weekend which just illustartes the potential and demand for such places. There are simply not enough other restaurants to choose from where you can enjoy a good quality meal. Speaking from personal experience and from talking with others on the subject, it unfortunately forces people to look elsewhere. If people are going elsewhere, they may not, for example, go to a bar afterwards in Preston which results in other business potentially losing that custom. I don\'t know if it is a planning policy issue or whether there is a lack of potential investors and businesses who are seemingly unwilling to open in Preston. I simply cannot see why that would be and why there is an obvious shortage in this specific sector. Perhaps its something that needs looking at, progressed and developed given the amazing success of East z East?

Comment: Try and ask some intelligent intellectual members of the Preston public that do not have a vested interest in making a business opportunity out of this. I remain convinced that too many decision makers have no real interest other than the obvious in my city. A pressure group or panel is needed preferably with people under 60 to scrutinise decisions made by councillors and the council (who may only work but not live here) And more importantly a sustained long term campaign to put some civic pride back into Preston. I work in Merseyside and the pride Liverpudlians have in their city is highly admirable. It can if done properly, it can be replicated here. I cannot stress enough this will only work if so called business men are kept out. It will undoubtedly benefit the business community in the long run. I will give you an example we make great effort to bring students to Central Lancs it benefits the University and for periods the tacky shops that surround it what is being done about keeping and attracting students to live and work in Preston after they have finished? Sheffield did this 30 years ago and what a place that is now. It needs people who really care about this city not people who just want to make a fast buck. I could go on but as a public servant with very little time on my hand and proably very little chance of being heard and acted upon I have passed the stage of banging my drum save to say presently Preston is like a beaten old boxer about to hit the canvass, when it does it will be down and well and truly out.

Comment: We should work on bringing the opposing counties such as Blackburn together and making our region more attractive to shoppers as we have so much on our doorsteps to include the coast etc. By pulling together we can compete on a national footing and not be concerned with fighting between counties. Lets focus on our assets and build strength, competition is good and it makes us all stronger, the customer will benefit and we will all be at the top of our game! Business needs to support the scheme and be more proactive, the various lobbying parties would do well to integrate on common values so that their voice is stronger and more powerful!
