Government minister sets date for visit to Preston

JAMES Purnell MP, secretary of state for the Department of Work and Pensions, will speak at an invite only event for Preston's business community, it has been revealed.

Mr Purnell, who was forced to cancel a visit to Preston earlier this year, will make the trip for the next Property Forum run by private sector networking and lobby group, Downtown Preston in Business (DPIB), due to take place on Tuesday, July 29.

Previous guests at the popular forums have included Grosvenor, developers of the Tithebarn project in Preston. The next event will look at the current enterprise culture, social responsibility in the private sector, and the general economic conditions.

Frank McKenna, chairman of DPIB, said: "I am delighted that James has offered to take part in the property forum. He had been due to attend an event during our recent Lancashire Business Week, but was forced to pull out due to Parliamentary commitments.

"I know there is much to be learnt from the Preston business community, and i am sure he will return to Parliament with a few ideas!"

The event will take place at the Holiday Inn Preston, from 12-2pm. For more information visit the DPIB website at www.downtownpreston.com
