More than half the businesses in Preston do not believe Premiership football would be an economic boost to the city, according to a new study. However, senior partner Rob Salter, of the business advisors which ran the poll on its website, said he believes the higher profile of football's top flight would benefit Preston. He said: "The club itself would benefit financially from the billions of pounds of TV revenue floating in the top league, but there are additional spin-offs for the city. "The global and increased national TV audience would well and truly put Preston on the map." His views are backed up by Frank McKenna, of business networking group Downtown Preston in Business, who has seen the success of the Premiership in his native Liverpool. He said: "Premiership football would propel the name of Preston on to a global scale, which will be attractive to potential investors and retailers who are considering coming to the city."
