We are looking for six of the best - from you! The Lancashire Evening Post has teamed up with business networking group, Downtown Preston in Business (DPIB), to launch a new business awards to celebrate Preston's top firms. DPIB chairman Frank McKenna, the former deputy leader of Lancashire County Council, said the quantity and quality of nominees already received for the awards were an indicator of the quality of companies operating within Preston. He said: "We have had a particular interest in the property award and it is always a sign that a city is going places, when there are a lot of high-quality property companies operating in the same place. "There has been strong interest in the best newcomer award and, unsurprisingly, the financial services and professional services awards - where Preston has a great strength, has been well received as well. "I think we will see a good quality of companies when the final nominations come out and we will be looking to celebrate those firms with an eye on Preston's future, as well as those who have demonstrated loyalty to the city through leaner times." Winners will be announced at a ceremony on Thursday, September 27 at the Great Room, Preston North End. Mr McKenna also praised a move by event sponsors, law firm DWF, accountants Moore and Smalley and marketing firm Freshfield, to not go for any of the awards. He said: "I think we have all been to awards nights where you The Lancashire Evening Post is the official media partner of the awards. Editor Simon Reynolds said: "The Evening Post is delighted to be media partners for the Six in the City awards, which come at a time when business in Preston is seeing an upward surge. "With the regeneration of the city centre now appearing to be on the radar of the businesses in the city and beyond, it is timely that we celebrate all that is great about our own companies here in Preston. "Hopefully the business community will embrace these new awards and vote on our website, lep.co.uk, for their favourite nominees." The six categories for the awards: • Financial Services
