More than 100 businesses have signed up to a new organisation looking to put Preston on the map. Downtown Preston in Business, a private sector lobbying group, is holding its launch event in the city next week as it bids to provide a powerful voice for local businesses. The inaugural event takes place on Thursday, May 3 at The Forum on Winckley Street in the city centre, starting at 6pm. Founder Frank McKenna, the former deputy leader of Lancashire County Council, said: "We have already had interest from some very well-known names in the local business community including Preston North End FC. "This event will be a great chance to network and meet up with other prospective members, and to find out more about the work we are planning to do in the area." Organisers are hoping the group, which aims to develop a networking club and to provide business support and a voice for the city's economic drivers, will have more than 150 members by its second year.
